Come Go With Me
Responding to the uncertainty of moving to a new place, I turn to rural landscapes uniting my past and present to structure this work, choreographing a hypnotic meditation for grounding. A need for safety led to the work being executed entirely within an embrace. Felt sense is integral to the piece, with the ebb and flow of circling emerging organically. I contrast heavy music—reflecting how it felt to try to fit into an environment and concert dance traditions that were not right for me prior to this work—with slow, eased movement, which mirrors how returning to the rural felt. Timing, pattern, repetition, simplicity, and the mundane, rooted in my embodied experience of the rural, continue to define my aesthetic today.
