Kayla is an interdisciplinary artist from rural Two Harbors, Minnesota working with dance, film, installation, improvised performance, photography, and abstract expressionist painting. Her practice is a compassionate way of tending to, coping with, and communicating her lived experience and her imagined.
Rooted in Rural, Kayla pairs mundanity with unapologetic honesty, crafting a dynamic interplay between intimacy and exposure. Dedicated to the solo as a form of expression, her work resides somewhere between memoir, self-portrait, and speculative dream, serving as a soft conduit between past, present, and possibility. Her current body of work blends mediums to explore themes of self-performance, identity, relationship to place, radical love, and legacy.
