recipe for something

Picture
Image: Kayla holds a plywood board against her back as she kneels in a field of wildflowers.
recipe for something began with an image that came to me in a day dream, that of a person under a board. The choreography uses a semi-improvised score that was developed through deep listening, intuitive choice making, and play with framing the body. The work is an exploration of saying "yes" to one's gut and using what is on hand to create. With each rehearsal and performance the work unfolds itself continuously revealing new discoveries and meaning. All elements of the work have been created by Kayla.

Premiered at Dances at the Lakewalk in Duluth, Mn, July 2021. Presented at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Mn, November of 2021.

recipe for something is currently available for performance and can accommodate gallery, stage and outdoors spaces.
